Return to Roncesvalles: Reflections on the Song of Roland

Dr. Gerard J. Brault is the Edwin Erle Sparks Emeritus Professor of French and Medieval Studies at The Pennsylvania State University. His talk will cover four main topics:
- The battle in history vs. in the poem
- A typology of the characters in the Song of Roland
- The Twelve Peers
- The death of Roland
Professor Brault's two-volume edition and line-by-line analysis of the poem was first published in 1978. It is still in print. He is the author of numerous other books and articles on a variety of topics, chiefly medieval.
